Saturday Evening Post to stop printing after 205 years

For more than two centuries, The Saturday Evening Post has chronicled American life while shaping its national identity and printing features from some of the nation’s greatest writers. Published six times a year, the January 2027 issue will be its last in print. Famous for Jack London stories and Norman Rockwell art, it will continue online. The comprehensive new website will feature about 500,000 pages and 3,500 covers.
In a letter to around 50,000 subscribers, President and Publisher Joan SerVaas said the decision was due to “rising production costs, declining advertising revenue, and shifting reader habits.” The Saturday Evening Post was first published in 1821, running weekly from 1897 until 1963, then every other week until 1969. From the 1920s to the 1960s, it was one of the most influential magazines among the American middle class, featuring fiction, non-fiction, cartoons, and features that reached about two million homes weekly and every other week.
