Reader’s Digest will be celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2017 and will kick-off in January 2017 across all platforms with special content that will highlight the publication’s exceptional milestone and honour. A signature 70th logo and slogan “70 years of extraordinary Canadian stories” will appear on each issue of the magazine and online at Rd.ca and this issue will be used on social media platforms throughout 2017 to celebrate this special anniversary.
Throughout the anniversary year, Reader’s Digest editors will revisit memorable moments in the magazine’s history, examining stories that shaped society, policy and Canadians’ understanding of the human spirit. Editorial plans for the 70th anniversary include: Stories from the “RD Vault” that will present readers’ most beloved feature stories from years past. There will be stories from the magazine’s readers about how Reader’s Digest has inspired them and changed their lives and notes from prominent Canadians examining what Reader’s Digest has meant to them will be highlighted in each issue. Special anniversary initiatives will include sponsored sections, promotional contests, events and special executions across all of our platforms
“For close to seven decades—almost half as long as Canada has existed—Reader’s Digest has been telling stories about Canadians, by Canadians, for Canadians,” says Dominique Ritter, Executive Editor, Reader’s Digest Canada. According to Vividata 2016 Q2 results, Reader's Digest ranked #1 for Total Print and Digital audience, reaching over 4.6 million Canadians.
In addition to the bonus print content, a special monthly feature called “70 Things…” will be available online at rd.ca that will explore the best life lessons, jokes and other interesting facts Reader’s Digest has offered Canadians over the past 70 years. The January/February 2017 issue of Reader’s Digest will hit newsstands and be available on the App Store and other digital platforms on Monday, December 26, 2016
