The Winnipeg Free Press and Broadview have launched a new partnership to sustain religion reporting as it disappears from newsrooms across Canada. Broadview is an independent Canadian magazine covering spirituality, justice and ethical living. Under the new partnership, the two organizations will share a journalist focused entirely on religion reporting. “This partnership ensures that thoughtful, nuanced religion reporting continues to be part of the public conversation,” said Paul Samyn, Editor of the Winnipeg Free Press.

The newspaper launched its “Religion in the News” project in 2019, and this latest iteration strengthens the last dedicated religion reporting position at a major Canadian daily newsroom. The Free Press will remain the primary editorial home for the reporting, and Broadview will support the role through charitable fundraising, staffing oversight, and some editing. Features produced through the partnership will appear in the Winnipeg Free Press and on Broadview’s online news platforms, reaching both local and national audiences.
