Weddingbells' latest annual reader survey revealed that national spending on weddings is up 8% from 2012. More than 2,200 readers were polled from Jan-March. See more findings at weddingbells.ca.
L’Association québecoise des éditeurs de magazines (AQEM) cancelled this year's Quebec Magazine Awards to concentrate on fighting the province's proposed blue box fees. The program will be back next year with awards for both 2012 and 2013 editions.
Magazines Canada partnered with Canada Post Corporation for a subscription-selling link that leads directly from the Canada Post site to Magazines Canada's "Canadian Magazine Store" online shop.
Susan Lawrence, formerly of Quill & Quire, passed away March 25 after a battle with cancer. She edited the Books for Young People section for twelve years since 1996, and left the mag in 2008. She will be celebrated April 13 at Trinity St. Paul's United Church in Toronto.
In its Spring 2013 issue, Humanist Perspectives notes the passing of Joe Piercy, vice-president and director of Canadian Humanist Publications, the mag's publisher. He was HP's editor from 1993-2003 and an editorial board member since 1983. He died February 13 after a bout of pneumonia. A tribute will appear in the summer issue.
