Spacing adds audio platform
Spacing, a Toronto-based magazine about urban issues, has launched Spacing Radio on its website. A new episode of the biweekly online radio show (or podcast) will become available every other Monday. It's free to download from the website, as well as through iTunes.
Publisher Matthew Blackett says his team has been tinkering with the idea for a year. CBC Radio turned down a show pitch from Spacing last year, citing the team’s lack of broadcasting experience, so Blackett and co. decided to learn the trade by doing it on their own online.
Blackett says he'd like to monetize the show by bringing in sponsors, “probably one per episode.”
The show is hosted by CBC news anchor David Michael Lamb and produced by Spacing managing editor Todd Harrison. The first edition features an interview with former London mayor Ken Livingstone, who introduced road tolls in downtown London.
