Via Destinations comes to a stop
Via Rail Canada's bilingual Via Destinations ended its run as of the March 2014 edition. The custom publication was produced six times a year by Éditions Gesca.
Via Destinations had a circulation of 55,000 copies per issue, distributed free onboard to Via Rail passengers. The farewell edition pays tribute to the past by catching up with 20 of the magazine's most influential cover models, including Celine Dion, Debbie Travis and Sidney Crosby.
"A magazine is made possible by teamwork," wrote editor Eric Fourlanty in his farewell editor's address. "I want to thank everyone, whether they worked behind the scenes or appeared in our pages, who made VIA Destinations the excellent publication it is."
Following previous onboard publications, Via Destinations premiered in its current form in February 2004 and was redesigned in 2012.
Fourlanty said the decision to stop publishing was Via Rail's, not Gesca's. Via Rail Canada did not respond to requests for comment.
