U of T Press and CUPE reach tentative agreement

After months of negotiations, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3261 has reached a tentative agreement on behalf of more than 100 warehouse and retail workers at the University of Toronto Press (UTP) and Bookstore – the largest in Canada and one of North America’s largest university presses. Once ratified, the agreement will avoid a rare strike at Canada’s oldest university publisher, distributor and retailer.

UTP is the leading distributor of academic titles in Canada, and also distributes books for several small and mid-sized independent Canadian publishers. The workers would have been in a legal strike position at the beginning of this month.
