The Toronto Star is expanding its opinion-writing team, adding popular columnists Justin Ling and Elizabeth Renzetti, according to Opinion Editor Jordan Himelfarb. Ling joins the Star as a staff columnist and will be focusing on issues such as security, politics and misinformation. He’ll also provide insights on big tech companies and AI. Based in Montreal, Ling had previously been contributing to the Star as a freelance columnist and investigative journalist.
Renzetti is a best-selling Canadian journalist and author. She previously worked for The Globe and Mail, where she wrote a popular opinion column and feature articles. She’s lived in London, Los Angeles, and Berlin, where she also worked as a journalist for The Globe. In 2020 and 2023, she won the Landsberg Award for reporting on gender issues. Her first novel, Based on a True Story, was shortlisted for the Kobo Emerging Writer Award. She currently lives in Toronto.
