Postmedia, owners of the National Post, joins other publishers who have signed on to Google News Showcase, the company’s content licensing program. According to Google, more than 1,500 publishers are participating, including the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail, in addition to many smaller publishers.
The platform is similar to Apple News+, but it doesn’t charge a user fee for access. Google has invested more than US$1 billion in the program.
