In early 2026, Canadian publishers will have the opportunity to participate in Local Ink, a cloud-based virtual newsstand for Canadian community newspapers. Local Ink supports a sustainable business model for publishers navigating to digital revenue. Access to analytics, metrics, and geo-targeting capabilities required by advertisers have historically been out of reach for many community newspaper publishers. This initiative aims to end that. Local Ink was built by Calgary-based Local Ink Limited and AdWest Marketing with support from News Media Canada. Publisher benefits include protecting digital subscription revenue, growing readership, and delivering credible analytics to attract regional, provincial, and national advertisers. Platform testing is now in its final stages, with the virtual newsstand and e-edition platforms scheduled to launch in early 2026. More details will be shared in January.
