The National Newspaper Awards is closing entries beginning January 9th to January 15th, 2026 (depending on the category), for journalism published in 2025 in 24 categories, including a new award for Innovation in Journalism. The competition is open to print and digital publications that publish content at least five days a week. Additions to this year’s awards include replacement categories Digital Storytelling and Illustrated Commentary, and Local Reporting by newsroom size, with expanded criteria for entries.
The awards allow entries in any language in all categories – and will also continue to welcome submissions from Canadian journalists or organizations who would otherwise be ineligible via its Special Recognition Citation. Details on categories, including the various submission deadlines, can be found here https://nna-ccj.ca/entry-categories/ Finalists will be revealed in March, and award winners will be announced at an in-person gala on April 24, 2026 in Toronto.
