The Manitoba government has released a report prepared by the All-Party Committee on Local Journalism, said Robert Loiselle, MLA for St. Boniface and Committee Chair. “Local, rural and cultural media plays a critical role in Manitoba,” he said. “We heard from local media outlets and the public about how we can strengthen this important source of information for Manitobans, and we’re listening. We’re going to move forward with the recommendations in the report.”
Recommendations included exploring options to support local journalism through tax credits, ensuring that a minimum of 25% of government advertising goes to local journalism, and exploring a regular reporting mechanism for government advertising.
