Coast Reporter earns CCN Award for Best Special Section

The Coast Reporter of Sechelt/Gibsons, British Columbia, has won First Place for Best Special Section for printed Newspapers (circulation 10,000+) in The Canadian Community Newsmedia (CCN) Awards, for its “Coast Kids” feature. The Awards honour outstanding work in editorial, photography, multimedia and overall excellence in community newspaper publishing. This year the category was open to printed newspapers only.

Students were given a written description of a supporting local business and asked to translate it into a visual representation using coloured pencils – and their imaginations. With contributions from over 300 students, the 14-page section captured the creativity of children from School District 46. The playful design, vibrant visuals, and class photos, added warmth and personality, with CCN judges calling it “a heartwarming model of community journalism at its best.”
