Canadian newspaper readers still want print and digital

Vividata’s Spring 2026 Cross-Media Update has revealed that more than 16 million Canadians read newspapers each week in both print and digital formats. This figure has remained relatively consistent over time. Quebec and BC continue to outperform other regions on reach in both formats, while French Canadians are more likely to engage with newspaper content via digital. Overall, Canadians are spending about 2.3 hours per week reading printed editions and 7.8 hours reading digital content.
Digital-only readership accounts for 49% of weekly newspaper use nationally, rising to 50% in Ontario, 52% in Quebec and 50% in Atlantic Canada, while sitting at 46% in both BC and the Prairies. Print-only readership is smaller, at 16% nationally, ranging from 14% in Quebec to 19% in both the Prairies and Atlantic Canada.
