Amazon to shut down Kindle Newsstand

Publishers Weekly reports that Amazon will phase out print and digital magazine and newspaper subscriptions service next year. The tech giant had offered the services in the U.S. and three other markets. A large offering of mags and newspapers will continue to be included with Kindle Unlimited.

The program is winding down as the company is looking to cut costs as it faces slowing growth, and is announcing large layoffs.
