People in Publishing: Changes at Canadian Heritage, Quill & Quire, Canadian House & Home and more
Scott Shortliffe is leaving his position as director of periodical publishing policy and programs at Canadian Heritage for a promotion to deputy director general, broadcasting and digital communication. Shortliffe has been in his current position since June 2006 and his responsibilities included the Canada Periodical Fund. His new position takes effect March 21.
Taking over for Shortliffe is Ramzi Saad who has headed the strategic policy and management team at Canadian Heritage since September 2008. Saad starts as director of periodical publishing policy and programs on March 28.
Sue Flinn has been announced as the new web editor at St. Joseph Media-published Quill & Quire. Flinn previously worked at The Coast as arts and deputy editor. Flinn takes over at Quill & Quire from Scott Macdonald, who left in December 2010 to pursue full-time freelance writing.
Canadian House & Home has announced Mandy Milks as its new art director. Milks previously worked as Canadian House & Home’s deputy art director and moved into the new role in January. She will be overseeing the art direction of Canadian House & Home magazine and the French language edition, Maison & Demeure, as well as the iPad edition and the House & Home Media website. She takes over from Maarten Sluyter, who worked at Canadian House & Home for 13 years and recently moved to St. Joseph Media-published FASHION Magazine.
Brian Hartz has been appointed editor of Page One Publishing’s Douglas magazine. Hartz has been with the magazine since 2010, previously working as associate editor. He takes over from retiring editor Norman Gidney, who has been with Douglas since its launch in 2006.
