Canadian Business Press elects new board, changes corporate name

Alex Papanou, vice president at the Business Information Group, is the new chair of the Canadian Business Press. He was elected to the position at the CBP's annual general meeting on Wednesday and takes over from David McClung, president of the Baxter Travel Group, who moves into the past chairman role.

Canada Wide Media chairman and CEO Peter Legge is new to the CBP board of directors. CWM publishes both trade and consumer mags.

New to the board this year are Peter Legge, chairman and CEO of Canada Wide Media Ltd., and James O. Hall, president of Keith Communications Inc. John Kerr, CEO of Kerrwill Publications Ltd., is returning to the board as well. On his way out is Robert Luton, president of LVP Media Inc. Luton is retiring and recently sold Electronic Product & Technology magazine to the Business Information Group.

At the executive level, Karen Dalton is moving into the newly created position of executive director. Dalton, a former executive director of the Canadian Public Relations Society, will now handle day-to-day operations at the CBP, while president Phil Boyd will focus solely on government matters as he prepares for retirement in March 2009.

At the annual general meeting, board members voted in favour of a resolution to change the CBP's official name from "The association of specialized newspapers and magazines" to "The association of specialized newspapers, magazines and digital media."
