Three people let go by Brunico Communications
Brunico publishes five magazines and two Web-only properties.

Last week, Toronto-based Brunico Communications Ltd. laid off three staffers working in the digital production, audience service and administration departments, president and CEO Russell Goldstein said. “There is a global economic dowturn and [these cuts were made] in anticipation of how we need to be structured to deal with that. It’s just sort of forward looking,” Goldstein said.

Brunico publishes five magazines (Strategy, KidSceen, RealScreen, Boards and Playback) and two Web-only properties (Media in Canada and Stimulant). Several of those titles have an international focus and Goldstein notes that the decline in Canadian advertising has only recently begun. “I’d say that we started to see signs of softening up to 10 months earlier in the States than we saw in Canada."

Several personnel changes in publisher and editor roles at Brunico—not related to the economy—have also taken place.

Playback publisher Peter Vamos recently left the company to work for Achilles Media, where he will take the role of executive director of Banff TV.

Also departed is longtime Playback editor Mark Dillon. Brendan Christie, who moved over RealScreen, has since replaced him.

Following that, Barry Walsh took over the vacated editorship at RealScreen. He moved from an associate editor position at Boards magazine.

KidScreen publisher Sindy Preger has also parted ways the company. Goldstein is filling in as interim publisher there until a replacement is found.
