Google testing AI to write news stories

Google is testing AI software that can produce news stories and is pitching it to large news organizations, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal.

Genesis, as the program is called, can apparently gather information and details and craft news stories. It’s being pitched as an assistant to journalists that can focus on more mundane tasks as it frees up reporters’ time. Some observers, according to The New York Times, found Genesis unsettling, and reported that Google sales reps took the effort of producing accurate news stories for granted.

While the tool is divisive and anxiety inducing, many news organizations, including The Times have notified employees that they will explore the potential of AI to see how it performs in the competitive news world.

Meanwhile, word comes from India that broadcasters have begun using AI news anchors. One of them is named Lisa.
