Atlantic Books Today
The Winter 2016/2017 issue of Atlantic Books Today is noteworthy. It has the fun and sophisticated feel of a New Yorker cover.

Here’s a blurb from the cover artist, Emma Fitzgerald, who is the author of Hand Drawn Halifax, a bestselling book and now a colouring book too: “I was inspired by a phrase my Dad says on a stormy day: ‘It is a day for a book in the bed.’ Taking it one step further and bringing it into the bath was not too far of a stretch. Encapsulating so many of the fantastic books being made in Atlantic Canada, in an image that also speaks to our experience of hibernating during winter, was a fun challenge. Those winters may very well be why we have so many great writers, and great readers.”

Editor Chris Benjamin says: ” From the editor’s end, the challenge was to blend Emma’s blissful image into a new brand that said we’re for people who really, really love Atlantic Canadian books, and take them seriously. With suggestions from our cover consultant, our designer, Joseph Meuse, did a fabulous job taking a whimsical, half-coloured illustration (which corresponded to the lead story of adult colouring books) and turning into an overall serious cover that shouted out our top stories in a simple, clear and very modern cover concept. We’re very pleased with the outcome and so far our readers seem to be too.”
